About Recce
Recce is a fast, beautiful, and fun way to explore your immediate surroundings and everything that is going on around you. Recce takes location based discovery to a completely new level, by using multiple data sources to create immersive 3D cities on the fly. The end result is an experience that brings the world to life.
Recce was created to deliver a unique browsing experience that is fast, fun and visually attractive. This browsing experience allows you to discover and explore what is going on around you right now, using real-time social signals to help you find the coolest places around. Recce includes the usual map utility functions, such as live public transport routing, with funky visualisations that are both fun, and faster than any other service.
Our Approach
There is a lot of really useful data about the world - from roads and buildings to parks, hills and rivers, and to traffic, transport, deals, offers, events, etc. We have fused our strong gaming and large scale data backgrounds and worked out how to bring all of this data together in a unique way that is highly immersive, ever changing, intriguing and adaptive. In fact, it’s not too dissimilar to the actual world around you.
And in the process of bringing the world to you, no CO2 emissions were generated, nor cameras harmed in the making of your city. :)
Who are we?
Ian Hetherington - Executive Chairman
In 1985 Ian founded the iconic games company Psygnosis and laid the ground for a career in which he has remained at the forefront of innovation and development in the burgeoning video games and interactive industries.
He has been instrumental in the start up of many of the defining businesses in entertainment technology, guiding them to critical and commercial success. The list is significant - Psygnosis, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Evolution Studios, Realtime Worlds. He has a proven track record as a prolific spotter and promoter of talent, he was instrumental in the creation of DMA Design (Lemmings, GTA), Travellers Tales (Mickey Mania, Disney, Lego), Bizarre Creations (Project Gotham), Reflections (Destruction Derby, Driver) along with producing such classics as the Wipeout and Motorstorm series - all together over 1 billion units of software sold.
His experience, gained through the development and launch of the PlayStation, is now being fully utilised on the Recce platform.
Rian Liebenberg - CEO
Rian has an extensive background in highly scalable, innovative and disruptive businesses and products. His background includes 6 years at Google, during which he worked on Chrome, Hangouts, gTalk, Adsense, among other initiatives. Prior to that, he headed up Engineering at lastminute.com, where he got hooked on rapidly scaling products and businesses out. In the early part of his career, he gained valuable experience by working in various capacities and sectors in software, infrastructure and operations engineering in South Africa where he originates from. Rian has always had a strong passion for discovering and exploring the full extent of the world we live in, combined with making large amounts of disparate data about the world usable. Recce is a realisation of that vision.
